Our Story
From cleaning crews to accredited inspection
BAT Services didn’t start as an asbestos company. It started as a commercial cleaning business — offices, facilities, and construction site cleanup across the Knoxville metro. That work is still part of what we do.
What changed the direction of the company was how often the question came up on site. Crews would be cleaning up after a renovation or a demolition and someone would ask whether anyone had actually checked what was in the material they were sweeping. Frequently, nobody had.
So we got licensed. Then accredited. Then licensed in three more states. Today BAT Services — Best Asbestos Testing — is a full asbestos and lead inspection company serving homeowners, contractors, insurers, and commercial property owners throughout Middle Tennessee and the Southeast.
The cleaning business is still here. But the inspection work is what the company is now built around, and it’s built around one deliberate constraint.
The Constraint
We inspect. We don’t abate. Ever.
It would be straightforward to add an abatement division. The referrals are already coming out of our own reports, the margins are better than testing, and plenty of firms in this industry do both.
We won’t, because the moment a company profits from removal, every positive test result it produces becomes suspect — to the homeowner, to the adjuster, to the contractor reading the report. Even when the finding is entirely correct, the incentive is visible and it undermines the document.
Staying on one side of that line means our report reads the same whether the answer is yes or no. That’s the product. Everything else about how we operate follows from protecting it.

- We perform clearance on other companies’ abatement work
- We refer removal work out and take nothing for it

A certified report is a legal document. The conversation about what it means should be a normal conversation. You get both.
Full PPE, every time
Not because your home is dangerous to occupy, but because we do this daily. Cumulative exposure is a real occupational risk and we treat it that way.
Clean up after ourselves
We collect samples, which means some disruption. We minimize it, we warn you about it first, and we clean up the dust and debris before we leave.
Credentials
Licensed, accredited, and independent
BAT Services holds asbestos inspection licensure in Tennessee, Georgia, Alabama, and Virginia — a combination few firms in the region carry. We’re also accredited and licensed to perform AHERA school inspections, though that isn’t our specialty.
All sample analysis is performed by accredited laboratories. Nothing is determined by eye in the field. Material that looks like asbestos regularly isn’t, and material nobody suspected regularly is — which is exactly why the lab step is non-negotiable.
