Asbestos is a naturally occurring mineral that was commonly used in building materials for insulation, fireproofing and sound absorption prior to the 1980s. Asbestos has been used for hundreds of years and its dangers have been known since Roman times.
Not necessarily. Asbestos is most dangerous when it is disturbed and airborne and in most cases asbestos remains contained and safe in its undisturbed form. However, if your home has sustained damage due to mother nature, flooding or another exterior force or you are beginning to start a major renovation/upgrade and your home was constructed prior to 1980 you should want a certified inspector to evaluate your home or property.
A typical inspection takes 30-60 minutes with certified lab results provided in less than 3 days.
BAT Services is an accredited and licensed inspection company. In the event that it is determined your property tests positive for Asbestos Containing Material (ACM) BAT services is not an abatement company. An approved abatement company will need to be contracted to remove the asbestos before repair or renovation.
The Personal Protective Equipment (PPE) we wear is for our safety in accordance with industry standards and we will require that everyone remain at a safe distance during an inspection. We take all necessary steps to leave our sample areas undisturbed once the sample is collected and clean up after ourselves so that your property remains safe and their is no need for you to wear safety apparel in your own home.
Sadly, yes. Although the majority of asbestos containing material (ACM) manufactured products was banned in the US in 1980 a large number of building products imported still contain asbestos and we often find that newer homes still contain ACM.
No. While some DIY home asbestos kits send samples to accredited labs, insurance companies generally will not accept DIY test results as evidence for a claim. This is because insurers, similar to state and local authorities, require an inspection by a certified professional to guarantee the accuracy and legal validity of the results.
Yes. We work with several contractors and environmental and abatement companies and can guide you to the help you require.
